Why Trying Harder Isn't the Answer

You don’t need a title to feel the pressure to perform. You can be a parent, a friend, a leader, a solopreneur, or someone just trying to grow—and still feel the weight of hard conversations, big decisions, and showing up when it counts.

But what happens when your go-to ways of handling life… stop working?
  • Why do I keep hitting the same wall with this person?
  • Why does this job drain me when I used to love it?
  • Why can’t I say what I mean?

The answer isn’t always “try harder.” Sometimes the answer is to "get curious."

Most of us are too close to our patterns to see them. We react on autopilot until something breaks—and that’s where self-awareness becomes your advantage. This isn’t about journaling your way to peace or trying to become someone else. This is about learning how you’re wired so you can stop working against yourself. It’s not soft. It’s strategic.

Behavioral assessments, such as DISC, provide practical insights into how you operate day-to-day, not just who you are, but how you respond under pressure, how others perceive you, and where your energy naturally flows. They help you notice the drivers behind your actions and reactions, giving you the clarity to adapt what isn’t working.

Want to start small? Think of one situation that regularly frustrates you. Ask yourself: What do I usually do here? Is that helping or hurting me? What could I try instead? A simple shift, such as pausing before speaking, asking one thoughtful question, or adjusting your tone, can change the dynamic and the outcome. Once you begin to understand your behavioral wiring, everything shifts. You stop reacting and start responding. You stop assuming others think the same. You begin to communicate in ways that connect, and you lead, live, and relate with more ease.

This isn’t about fixing you. It’s about understanding you.

If you're craving language for things you can’t explain, permission to stop second-guessing, or a clearer path to using your strengths with more intention, exploring a behavioral assessment like DISC is a great place to start. It’s not a personality quiz for fun. It’s a mirror and a map. If you’ve been feeling off, disconnected, or ready for something more aligned, this is your invitation to shift from reaction to intention.
